Diving into the Bible is one of the most rewarding activities for the soul. Each person absorbs God’s Word in their own unique way. For me, everything changed in November 2023 when God stirred my heart to go deeper into Scripture. I rediscovered an old Bible reading schedule that I hadn’t finished—I still had half the Bible to read. That’s when I wondered: What if I could complete this schedule before the year ended?
Determined, I turned to listening as a way to consume the Word. Using the Bible Gateway website, I began listening to the unfinished portions of Scripture at 2x speed. To my amazement, I finished the remaining half of the Bible by the end of November. Encouraged by this, I wondered how much more I could take in during December. By the end of that month, I had listened to the entire Bible twice!
This experience ignited a new passion in me. In 2024, I decided to keep listening. Over time, my familiarity with Scripture grew, and passages that once felt intimidating became familiar and approachable. By the end of 2024, I had listened to the entire Bible seven times, bringing my total to 9.5 times in just 14 months.
In 2025, I set out on a new journey: to engage with the Bible through a more focused approach. This year, I created a reading schedule that allows me to concentrate deeply on each book of the Bible. My goal is to read each book five times before moving on to the next. So far, I’ve listened to Genesis five times, and the clarity and retention of what I’ve heard have amazed me. It reminds me of my childhood when I would record my favorite TV shows on VHS tapes and watch them repeatedly until I practically memorized the scripts.
This journey has been transformative, and I’m excited to see how God continues to work through His Word in my life. I’ve included my new Bible reading checklist for this year as a resource for anyone who feels inspired to begin or deepen their journey with Scripture.
